11/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jigger was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. As per previous owner, Tyson has not lived with children or other cats and dogs. Around Strangers Tyson is shy and will hide until they leave. When Tyson plays with adults he plays somewhat roughly. Tyson has been defecating out of the litter box recently and has displayed the same behavior in the past. Tyson doesn’t like to be picked up or held but loves to come over and cuddle with you if you’re sitting down. His owner describes him as very affectionate, shy and loveable with a medium activity level. Reaction to assessor: Tyson was lying down on his blanket near the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Tyson keeps his paws folded under his body, has eyes focused on the assessor and doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Tyson remains motionless Reaction to touch: Tyson seems hesitant at first and lowers his head when the assessor extends his hand out. He slowly warms up when rubbed, leans in for attention and allows petting all over with a slow approach. His body slowly loosens up; he rolls on his side and his soft head butts when rubbed on his cheeks. He feels confident at the back and doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed. Reaction to being picked up: Tyson was a bit tense when picked up and struggles to be put down. Tyson’s previous owners report that he was eliminating (defecating) outside the litterbox recently. Tyson was seen by a veterinarian and has no known medical issues. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. We advise potential adopters to be aware that this behavior may continue in a home environment, and that they be comfortable with management and modification techniques for this behavioral challenge. Behavior Determination: Experience Tyson may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
