*** SAFE 12/23/17 ***Tux is a sweet boy that came to us with a kitty cold. He needs a little time to recover and will be good to go! He is negative for Felv/FIV

Hello, my name is Tux. My animal id is #16390. I am a male white kitten at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 months old. – P

I came into the shelter as a stray on 18-Dec-2017.

Tux 16390 is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Ricky has no behavior concerns.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 3 months Microchip noted on Intake? scan negative History : stray Subjective: Observed Behavior – friendly Evidence of Cruelty seen -no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective BCS 5/9 EENT: OD-severe chemosis and conjunctival hyperemia, green discharge, cornea appears ruptured, ears clean, green nasal discharge and congestion Oral Exam: deciduous teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: MI, 2 descended testicles MSI: Ambulatory x 4, flea dirt, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment nasal discharge- R/O URI vs other conjunctivitis, suspect ruptured right eye Prognosis: good Plan: Gave simbadol 0.19 mls SQ (x) start doxycycline 15 mg PO SID x 10 days start erythromycin OU BID x 10 days gave LRS fluids SQ 30 mls (x) monitor right eye, will likely need enucleation SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to URI

[Spay/Neuter Waiver – Upper Respiratory Illness] Your newly adopted animal is in treatment for an upper respiratory illness. The veterinarian is temporarily waiving this animal from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY until such time as the illness has resolved and the pet has sufficiently recovered. At that time, this animal must come into compliance with the spay/neuter requirements.

Behavior during intake: Tux has a soft and relaxed body during intake. Counselor was able to scan for a microchip, collar and take a picture without any issues.

Basic Information:: Finder was able to approach kitten and pick kitten up and bring home for a few days.

Previously lived with:: 2 Adults

How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers, Tux is friendly and will start purring once someone starts to pet him.

How is this cat around children?: Unknown

How is this cat around other cats?: Around other cats outside, Tux was friendly and respectful

How is this cat around dogs?: Unknown

Behavior Notes: Unknown

Bite history:: Unknown

For a New Family to Know: Tux is described as friendly and affectionate. He has a medium activity level and likes to play with all types of toys.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Tux was brought in as a stray, but his finder kept him in their home for a few days. He lived with two adults during that time and they report he is friendly and will start purring once someone starts to pet him. Around other cats outside, Tux was friendly and respectful. Tux is described as friendly and affectionate. He has a medium activity level and likes to play with all types of toys.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – friendly

Cage Condition:: Cage is neat

Reaction to assessor:: Tux is lying at the front, soft.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Tux continues to remain soft.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Tux remains neutral.

Reaction to touch:: Tux moves to a different side of his cage, begins to purr and leans into petting.

Reaction to being picked up:: Tux remains calm and allows handling.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Calm,Sweet,Affectionate

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Average

Behavior Asilomar: H – Healthy

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Tux interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
