02/11/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Tony was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Tony was resting on her blanket at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Tony seems unsure and starts to slow blink when the assessor makes eye contact. She keeps her tail tucked by her side and she doesn’t come forward or get up when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Tony lip licks and becomes alert. Reaction to touch: Tony arches her back and lip licks when the assessor approaches her. She seems wary, very uncomfortable and flinched when the assessor rubbed her. Her body feels very tense, she remains immobile when touched then she hisses and slowly shifts away. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 02/09/17 At very back of cage, curled tightly, face pressed against side of cage. Unmoving when I approach kennel, slow blinks. Doesn’t move when I open cage door and slowly extend my hand, allows touching all over but flinches a little with the touch, doesn’t otherwise move. After I close door I sit and talk softly to him for a while, and he slow blinks, the blinking rate increases, eventually feigns sleep. Needs time to adjust. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Very fearful, tense, allows handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced, adult home only- Tony tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
