ENRICHMENT NOTES:
03/20/18
Lying in back of kennel with a flat, tense body, head lowered onto kennel floor. Hiding behind litterbox. He tolerates petting along head and body while raising head and turning head to watch my hand. Lowers head back down with continued interaction. Needs more time to adjust.
03/21/18
Lying in back of kennel with a low, tense body. He raises his head as the kennel door opens and tolerates petting along his head and body while turning to watch my hand and tilting ears. He scoots away from my hand and shifts his weight with continued petting. Sniffs treats offered but does’t eat them during interaction – may be too focused on me and environment. Nervous guy, needs some more time to adjust.
03/22/18
Lying in back of kennel with a low, tense body, head lowered onto kennel floor. He lifts his head and turns to make eye contact as I open the kennel door. Tolerates petting along head and body while flattening ears and turning head to watch my hand, face also tensed. Licks lips and shifts away from my hand with continued petting. Uncomfortable, needs more time to adjust. Sniffs treats offered but doesn’t eat them during our interaction.
Cage Condition:
Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:
Tommy Bay was lying down completely flat across the back wall of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Tommy Bay lip licks and tries to hide behind his litter box.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Tommy Bay tenses up and slowly looks around the kennel, scanning his surroundings.
Reaction to touch:
Tommy Bay continues to lip lick and shrinks his body when pet along his back. He seems very uncomfortable, tolerates attention and remains completely immobile throughout the interaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Laid back
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Timid
Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Tommy Bay has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experience
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:
None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Tommy Bay may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Any future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
