Crouched in back of kennel, tail wrapped around body. Makes eye contact and vocalizes softly, then looks around the room and licks lips. Tolerates petting along head and body while turning head to watch my hand and hissing. Shifts weight. Needs more time to adjust.

Tom was resting upon approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Tom does not respond initially, but after a moment he wakes and meows softly, looking at the assessor with soft eyes.

Tom remains motionless.

Tom meows softly and accepts petting. He leans in slightly for cheek rubs and closes his eyes.
Reaction to being picked up:
Tom is tense during pick up, but allows handling.
