04/14/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/14/17 14:25 Basic Info: Tinkerbell A1108848 is a 8yr old spayed female brown tabby & white DSH who was given as a gift to the owner 8yrs ago and is being surrendered due to personal problems. She was last seen by a vet a few mths ago and currently has no known health issues/injuries. Socialization: Tinkerbell is shy for a few minutes with strangers. She hasn’t been around other animals but was gentle, playful, relaxed/affectionate with the adults in the home and children of different age that would visit. Tinkerbell hasn’t bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: During car rides Tinkerbell will meow or be relaxed. She isn’t bothered by the following: being brushed or being put into a carrier. Tinkerbell hasn’t been disturbed while sleeping/resting, had her nails trimmed or been bathed. She doesn’t scratch on items in the home and doesn’t have a scratching post. For a New Family to Know: Tinkerbell is described as friendly, affectionate, playful (at times) & quiet with medium activity level. She’s an indoor only cat that sleeps in her carrier, eats dry & wet Friskies cat food 2x a day and uses an uncovered litter box with wee wee pads within. Due to where she was being kept Tinkerbell has been mostly in her carrier and only let out to clean it up. Intake Behavior: Tinkerbell initially allowed to be pet & scanned (-). She then began to hiss and growl. Due to these behaviors (also her body tensing up) I wasn’t able to collar or take her picture on the back drop. Tinkerbell walked out of her carrier on her own into her kennel where she retreated to the back & began to hiss and growl when approached.

04/17/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults Behavior toward strangers: Shy Behavior toward children: Relaxed and affectionate Behavior toward cats: Unknown Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Uncovered Energy level/descriptors: Medium MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Stressed, growling, very tense EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Tinkerbell is asleep on approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Tinkerbell wakes up and continues to lay in place, looks at the assessor with soft eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Tinkerbell continues to lay in place. Reaction to touch: Tinkerbell leans and arches into the stroke, purrs, and rolls over, with some occasional hissing. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Independent, Affectionate POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Pet-induced aggression Initially Tinkerbell solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body she begins hiss at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Tinkerbell becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Tinkerbell may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Though we believe this cat is displaying behaviors appropriate for experienced cat parents, she may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children. RECOMMENDATIONS: – No young children – Experienced cat parent
