Hello, my name is Timble. My animal id is #16787. I am a male orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 23-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- homeless.

Timble is at risk for behavioral reasons. Timble is extremely stressed in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. For this reason we are seeking placement with a New Hope partner who can further assess Timble’s needs before placement in a home. Medically, we have no concerns for Timble, who presents as a healthy cat.

Upon intake, Timble was curious and sniffing around. Timble was receptive to touch. Timble allowed all handling.

Basic Information:: Timble is a 2 year old unaltered male domestic short hair that the owner got as a gift from a friend when Timble was a few months old. The owner is surrendering due to her living circumstance. The owner has never taken Timble to the vet and he does not have any known injuries or health problems.

How is this cat around strangers?: Timble is described as shy around strangers but when he warms up to them, he is friendly.
How is this cat around children?: Timble has lived with a 5 year old and he was always relaxed with him but did not play with him, he only allowed the boy to pet him.
How is this cat around other cats?: Timble is relaxed and affectionate with other cats.
How is this cat around dogs?: Timble has never been around dogs.
Behavior Notes: Timble is relaxed during car rides. Timble is not bothered when his nails are trimmed, when he is brushed, when he is picked up and held, when he is put into a carrier, or when he is disturbed while he sleeps. Timble is a little fearful when he is bathed.
Bite history:: Timble has never bitten or scratched another animal or person.

For a New Family to Know: Timble is described as friendly and affectionate. The owner’s favorite thing about Timble is how much he likes to cuddle. When the owner is home, Timble follows her around. Timble enjoys playing with laser toys. Timble has been kept indoors only. Timble sleeps anywhere in the home. Time is fed 1/2 can of Friskies wet food twice a day and 1/2 a cup of the dry food twice a day. Timble uses a covered litter box with clumping litter.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Timble shows interest and rubs against the cage door with soft body, tail up.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Timble slowly engages, alert with eyes wide open and ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Timble accepted a brief touch on the head then immediately retreated. He began to hiss, swat with claws and began to huff and puff while remaining focus at the assessor’s hand.

He is extremely stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
