I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 06/03/2017 from NY 10456, owner surrender reason stated was ATT PEOPLE.

Tiger A1114036 is at risk due to behavior. He is tense and wary of his surroundings, hissing when approached for an interaction. He accepts brief petting on his head, but will growl and pat the assessor’s hand away to stop further contact.

Pt is resting in the kennel, sniffing the air occasionally, with eyes half open and not dilated. Appears very comfortable. Some wet food has been eaten. Did not try to open kennel door. Recommend continuing trazodone temporarily. Ideally it would not be needed long-term but it may be helpful while in the shelter. 1088

06/03/17 09:45 Basic Information: Tiger is a 4 year old altered domestic shorthair mix. He was found as a stray when he was 2 months and been with owners for the past 4 years. Owner stated he is healthy and has no healthy concerns. Owner surrenders Tiger due to increase in behavior in the home. Social Life and Personality: Tiger lived with 2 adults and children ages 4, 5, and 13 years old. He used to be friendly and outgoing but for the past 6 months he swats, hisses and growls at everyone beside the grandson whose 4 years old in the home. He doesn’t play with anyone only the large breed dog in the home that he is respectful. Tiger is indoors only and activity level is to a medium. Owner describes Tiger as affectionate at times, fearful and independent. Behavior: Tiger been scratched someone but not in the last 10 days (further information in behavior memo) He use to take baths when a kitten but now baths himself. Tiger wasn’t bothered by getting nails trimmed until recently owner is afraid to do so now. He struggles being pick up and held but depends on who it’s from. For a New Family to Know: Tiger is litter box trained and uses a scratching post as well. He likes to stay in one spot which is the grandson’s room. He likes to play with balls and has a habit on chewing on plastic bags. He eats dry food called meow mix which is a self-feeder. Owner stated Tiger is more active at night and likes to eat ice. Intake Behavior: Upon intake Tiger attempt to flee, hiss and allowed limited handling. He allows being collar and he scanned positive for a microchip.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Curious, Independent KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: two adults and a 10 month old Behavior toward strangers: friendly/ outgoing, but became defensive the past 6 month Bite or Scratch history: none Litter box training: yes Other notes: activity level is very high. Also, described Monks as playful, confident and shy. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/3/17- Observed Behavior – growling, swatting trying to bite, limited exam in Freeman net ENRICHMENT NOTES: 6/4/17- Crouched towards front on approach, very tense, eyes dilated, whiskers forward. Started grumbling when spoken to. Sniffed hand, then swatted between the bars. Lay down after being spoken to quietly for a while, returned slow blink, but still grumbling and occasionally hissing. 6/5/17- Much calmer today! Resting under kuranda bed, looking around. No vocalizing at all. Came up slowly when spoken to, sniffed hand through bars, ate offered treats. Hissed when shown assess-a-hand, eyes dilated. Allowed all pets while eating, grumbled quietly. Backed up a step when finished eating, hissed, tapped assess-a-hand without claws. Returned slow blink after door closed, stopped grumbling! EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Tiger remains sitting upright by the front during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Tiger becomes alert with eyes wide open, ears erect and forward. Reaction to touch: Tiger hisses at first, then accepts a brief touch on the head, but began to growl and paw (claws not exposed) at the assessor’s hand. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Tiger is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
