09/17/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/17/16 15:44 Basic Information: Tiger is a three year old, medium, brown tabby cat. The owner brought her in because she is no longer able to keep her due to a new move. She had her for about two years. Socialization: Tiger is a curious cat and likes to explore. When he sees a new stranger he is likely to approach them and sniff them. He has not spent time around children so his behavior around them is unknown. He also has not been around other cats. The owner stated that before she adopted him from a vet clinic she had been notified that Tiger had been atatcked by a dog when he was a kitten; knowing this she had not let Tiger around any dogs. He likes somewhat rough play, and his favorite activity is hiding in a corner and jumping out when he saw his owner approach. Behavior: He exclusively uses his litterbox, and has never had any accidents. On car rides he remains relaxed and calm. Tiger is known for his bursts of energy which cause him to run around the room. After his burst of energy he then has a tendency to calm down. For a New Family to Know: The owner had not bathed him so she is not aware of how Tiger will react. However she did mention that he loves being brushed. When she picks him up he lays in her arms and does not seem bothered by it. His activity level is moderate and he enjoys being playful. His favorite activities is running after a mouse, at which point he will pounce on it and bring it back to his owner. The toys he enjoys playing with most are mice, and balls. He had been kept mostly indoors but in the home he had a tendency to sit by the windowsill and look out the window. In his previous home he had slept on his own bed but at times his owner would come home and find him in her bed or her mom’s bed. The litter that the owner utilized was of the clumping variety and the brand was Freshstep. The owner had bought him a carpet scratching post but he had not utilized it. Behavior During Intake: During his evaluation Tiger was incredibly nervous. He did not want to exit his carrier on his own. The counselor set out food for him but it did not entice him to leave the carrier. The owner lifted him out of the carrier but Tiger continued to hold on with his nails. While he was out of the carrier he curled up into a ball and was actively looking to get away. The owner was then able to gently pick him up and place him back into a new carrier.

09/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tiger’s previous owner states he is a curious cat and likes to explore. He is likely to approach strangers and sniff them, but hasn’t spent time with children. The owner reports they were informed he had been attacked by a dog when he was a kitten and knowing this, the owner did not let Tiger around any dogs. He likes to play somewhat rough and he likes to hide in a corner and jump out whenever he saw the owner approaching. He is known for his bursts of energy, running around the room and playing with toy mice, pouncing on it and bringing it back to the owner. Reaction to assessor: Tiger was inside a den, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Tiger looks out from a hole on the den with soft eyes and sniffs around. He averts his gaze afterwards and lies down, still inside the den. Reaction to cage door opening: Tiger peeks outside a hole again. Reaction to touch: Tiger sniffs the assessor’s hand when offered and was a bit hesitant of touch. He allows gentle petting with a slow approach and slowly warms up, leaning in for cheek rubs. He comes out of his den afterwards and leans his body against the assessor. Reaction to being picked up: Tiger lets out a small whine, but remains calm when held. Behavior Determination: Experience Tiger appreciates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents who will allow him appropriate time to adjust to the new home environment.
