Basic Info
Thor is a DSH whose owners developed allergies and could not keep him any longer due to allergies. He has been with his owners for a year and a half but was an adult when they found him outside. Thor last visited a vet on 9/15/16 and had a clean bill of health and recieved vaccinations.
Socialization
Thor is shy around strangers and will hide for a couple of minutes before coming out and continue walking around. He is relaxed around children and lives with a 12 year old who he is gentle around and playful. He is playful when he plays with adults as well. He has never been around other cats or dogs. He has never bitten a person or animal before.
Behavior
He does not have accidents outside the litter box and scratches on the couch. During car rides he is relaxed and falls asleep. during baths he struggles but allows it as well as with getting his nails trimmed. He enjoys being picked up and brushed. He does not mind being put into a carrier.
New family
Owners describe him as playful, quiet and affectionate, he has a medium level of energy while at home. He likes to folow owners around the house and enjoys catnip toys and really loves laser pointers. he is kept indoors solely. He sleeps in the livving room and is fed Purina One dry and wet food three times a day. he has an automatic litter box with pellet litter. he does not have a scratch post at home.
Intake Behavior
thor allowed counselor to scan and collar with no problem but soon became over stimulated with touch and swatted and hissed. he did not allow further handling for photograph.

EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor: Thor was looking around with soft eyes, calm and relaxed.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Thor continues to make eye contact with the assessor but remains in place.
Reaction to cage door opening: Thor becomes alert, but remains calm.
Reaction to touch: Thor sniffs the assessor’s hand, but is hesitant of touch. He allows brief petting on his head before shifting away. He continues to try to avoid touch and will swat the assessor’s hand once before retreating to the other side of his kennel.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
VOCAL: Quiet

RECOMMENDATIONS:
– Experienced cat parent – Thor tolerates some attention and petting but may not be fully comfortable in the shelter. He may need some time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we recommend any future home with children conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
ENRICHMENT:

Sitting relaxed in cardboard bed, facing forward. Makes eye contact with soft eyes when spoken to. He comes forward to sniff the treats I have in my hand and I clicker train, rewarding him every time he allows me to touch his head or head-butts my hand. Does well during this session – treat motivated. Sprayed feliway.
