01/27/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Litter box training: Y EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cat hiding in cat den. Reaction to assessor: Tesla continued to hide as cage was approached. Reaction when softly spoken to: Continued to hide when spoken to and began hissing. Reaction to cage door opening: Cat den was repositioned so Tesla could face assessor. On observation her ears were back and her eyes were dilated. Reaction to touch: Growls and hissing when assessor tried to touch. Reaction to being picked up: Tesla would not allow petting at all. She came out of cat den and began to growl and swat. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 1/22/17 In feral den on approach, eyes dilated. Held strong eye contact, but could not be coaxed out. 1/23/17 In kennel area rather than cat den today. Still seems on edge, hunched down, eyes fully dilated. Started hissing on approach, but subsided after a bit. Sprayed feliway. 1/24/17 Moved downstairs. In cat den, started deep growling on approach, but stopped after a minute. Sprayed feliway. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Not able to assess VOCAL: Not able to assess CHARACTER TYPE: Aggressive RECOMMENDATIONS: _X_ Placement with a New Hope partner – Unfortunately, Tesla is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment. Tesla does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
