TANGERINE aka HOWIE – A1107397
Safe - 4-11-2017 Brooklyn
SAFE 4/11/17 So I had to go get a better picture of this pretty Orange Tabby; when I walked up to the kennel she was laying in her box and looked up to me. Though she hadn’t moved yet and I may have wakened her I knew we had to meet! As I opened the door up then steps out TANGERINE! She came right up to the front and laid her head in my hand and routinely did it for enough petting! When I was able to get an awesome picture she walked over to the other side when she heard the door about the lose she ran back and proceed to nudge and purr again while I pet her! Her previous name was HOWIE which didn’t do justice for this sweet baby girl!! Meet Her Today!!
HOWIE was found in a building stairwell with a red collar on – she was hissing at people so finder brought to ACC. Howie may be pregnant – is not a happy camper and needs rescue asap!

BEHAVIOR:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Howie was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Lying on blanket in cage with face towards front, rolls over, hesitantly allows petting, but also raises paw. Let us take out of cage, allowed most of exam (does not like abdomen palpated), but quickly escalated to growling and turning to bite, flee and when trying to catch became defensively aggressive
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
03/31/17
Crouched in litter box, turns away when I approach her. Starts rapidly breathing when the door opens. Looks around kennel frantically. Nervous. Tolerates attention. Food motivated. I was able to coax her forward with treats. Needs time to adjust.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor: Howie was pressed up against the back wall of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Howie turns around to make eye contact with soft eyes then lip licks at the assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening: Howie flinches and becomes alert.
Reaction to touch: Howie seems a little unsure at first but slowly leans forward to sniff the assessor. She closes her eyes then leans in for rubs and attention. After a couple soft pets she approaches the front with her tail erect and nudges the assessor for more attention. Her body feels relaxed and she paces back and forth while brushing up against the assessor’s hand.
Reaction to being picked up: Howie became tense and struggled to be put down.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet, Affectionate
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced cat parent – Howie may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.

Still pressed up against the back with her head facing the wall. Shy girl, turns and makes eye contact when called. Needs you to make the first move. Sniffs hand and accepts petting. Leans in for rubs then slowly gets up and approaches the front. Tail rises, body perks up when rubbed. Doing a lot better!

Went to Glendale for surgery
04/05/17
Poor kennel presence, lowered body in litter box. She needs you to make the first move. Sniffs hand then perks up when pet along her body. Super sweet little girl. Purrs softly when she feels comfortable then slowly approaches the front. Body relaxes, nuzzles up for attention.
