01/31/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Swirl was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was very receptive to handling during intake, but appeared ill and sounded congested. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Swirl’s cage was neat. Reaction to assessor: Swirl looks at the assessor and remains calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Swirl continues to look at the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Swirl crouches over and slowly walks through the porthole and sits on the other end of his extended kennel. Reaction to touch: Swirl sniffs the assessor’s hand and was hesitant of touch, but accepts petting and will slowly arch his back. He will shift back and forth between kennels, rubbing against the wall when spoken to. He appeared interested in interacting, but prefers to keep a distance from the assessor. Reaction to pick up: Swirl is slightly tense during pick up, but allows handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Friendly, allows handling, gentle temperament ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced Swirl appreciates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
