ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 02/17/18 Lying down on top her kuranda bed. She turns towards the assessor and makes eye contact. Low growls and starts to lip lick. Seems very uncomfortable. Kept the interaction short due to her stress levels. Offered treats by the front of the kennel. 02/18/18 Lying on top of kuranda bed, body tense. Hisses and flattens ears as I raise the cage cover, then strikes the front of the kennel. Stress meows and wails. Very uncomfortable, needs more time to adjust. Grumbles while eating. Left her some treats and then left her alone. 02/19/18 At front of kennel as I approach, stress meowing and swatting through the cage door. Vocalizes loudly when spoken to, then head-butts kennel door. Conflicted behavior. Food motivated so I click and reward each time she remains calm in front of her kennel. May have potential to warm up – leans in when touched with the bear-claw, then whips head around and pushed claw away while vocalizing loudly and flattening ears. Needs more time to adjust. 02/20/18 Lying on top of kuranda body, yowling and vocalizing. Reaches out towards me as I lift the cage cover, claws extended. She jumps down and comes forward for treats as I approach so I click and reward each time she comes forward while remaining calm. 02/21/18 Standing in front of kennel body and face tense. Ears tilt and she focuses her gaze on my hand as I approach, tail beginning to sway back and forth. I place a treat in her kennel and click each time she remains calm or doesn’t swat when spoken to. I end the session when she begins hissing and swatting. Uncomfortable in shelter, needs placement.

Reaction to assessor:: Sweetie looks around, hunched over, and then starts to eat her wet food.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Sweetie grumbles while eating, making angry nom nom noises. She approaches the front after and meows loudly, leans on the cage door with her face, and then goes back to eating.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Sweetie yowls and focuses on the opening.
Reaction to touch:: Sweetie was hesitant of touch and focuses on the assessor’s hand. She gently bats the assessor’s hand and nips, stress meowing, but will allow gentle strokes with a slow approach. She rubs against it when left still, but will bat at it when moved. She appears conflicted during interaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Sweet,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Other
Potential challenges comments:: Sweetie appears uncomfortable during her stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Defensive aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A conflicted cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Sweetie tolerates brief attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
