***SAFE 11/08/17*** 6 year old SUGAR was surrendered by her owner. She has some dermatitis which may have been an allergy to a flea collar. SUGAR is already spayed and ready for a furever home.

Hello, my name is Sugar. My animal id is #11232. I am a desexed female black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 30-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – medical.
Sugar is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats.

New URI noted on rounds History : owner surrender 10/31-had an oral ulcer and dermatitis. Benadryl given IM and frontline. Subjective: QAR. Good appetite. No c/s/v/d. Sneezing and congested. Objective EENT: Eyes chave mild serous d/c, serous nasal d/c H/L: eupneic but congested Assessment: URI with conjunctivitis Alopecia, focal dermatitis, pruritis – r/o flea allergy vs contact allergy (previous collar?)vs other ectoparasite Oral ulcer – calici vs contact allergy vs dietary indiscretion vs other Prognosis: good Plan: Move to iso Start doxycycline 10mg/kg PO SID x10d until 11/11 Start erythromycin OU BID x10d until 11/11 Start simbadol 0.24mg/kg SQ SID x3d until 11/3 for oral ulcer Recheck day 7, 10

Sugar was curious and friendly during intake. She allowed for all handling by counselor and was easily picked up when she jumped off the table. She was receptive to being pet and head butted counselor for attention.

Basic Information:: Sugar is a 6 year old, black and white DSH female. She was spayed prior to coming into the shelter and has no known health issues. Her only reported injury is a skin irritation on the back of her neck that was addressed during intake. She has not seen a vet recently and has been in her home since she was young.
Previously lived with:: Owner in home
How is this cat around strangers?: Sugar is shy for a few minutes when guests come in the home but will then approach for attention when she wants. She is friendly and likes to be rubbed.
How is this cat around children?: Sugar is relaxed and affectionate with children.
How is this cat around other cats?: Sugar has lived with one other female cat and was friendly and playful with her.
How is this cat around dogs?: Sugar lived with a dog in her previous home and was fearful of it. She would hide and keep her distance.
Behavior Notes: Sugar’s owners stated she will struggle and fight when being bathed and having her nails trimmed. They have brushed her while she is eating so she is distracted, but she will allow them to pick her up and hold her. She likes being cuddled.

For a New Family to Know: Sugar is described as being friendly, affectionate and playful. She likes to play with all kinds of toys and has been an indoor cat. She sleeps on her cat bed and eats both wet and dry food. She is litter box trained using a hooded and uncovered box with clumping or crystal litter. She likes to scratch on wood.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Able to do exam,including oral but very low patience
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/31/17 Chewing on litter as I approach. Strong appetite, runs forward for wet food. Allows petting along head and body while chowing down. Doing well after first day.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Sugar was tense and pressed up against the back wall of the kennel, watching the assessor with wide eyes.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Sugar’s ears tilt forward and she lip licks when spoken to softly.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Sugar tenses up and grumbles.
Reaction to touch:: Sugar leans forward to sniff the assessor, closes her eyes and accepts gentle rubs on her cheeks. She slowly starts to come out her shell, builds up confidence and allows petting along her body.
