Started growling on approach. Quieted after a while, softened slightly, returned slow blink. Started growling again when door opened. Hissed and struck offered assess-a-hand, then retreated 3/2/17 Dozing in litter box. Woke on approach, eyes dilated, tense posture, whiskers forward. Started growling when door opened. Growling increased in volume as assess-a-hand moved closer, hissed once. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: hissing, growling, swatting, striking, tried to flee, tried to bite ACTIVITY LEVEL, unable to determine VOCAL: unable to assess CHARACTER TYPE: unable to determine RECOMMENDATIONS: _X_ Placement with a New Hope partner – Spunky is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat and bite and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time
