Speedy was very stiff bodied during intake he did not allow us to handle him and would hiss and swat when approached. He did not let us collar him or take his picture.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Speedy was brought in with limited information on their behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/2/18 In den on approach, peeking out side window, eyes fully dilated, whiskers forward. Withdrew when door opened, started growling. Reached out and struck assess-a-hand when offered treats. 01/03/18 Outside of den, focusing on me with wide eyes and tilted ears. Low growls when hand extends toward him and fixates on it. Ears bend flat and he swats when petting is attempted. Extremely uncomfortable and nervous here. 1/4/18 Back in den today, completely out of sight. Started growling when door opened. Reached out and struck assess-a-hand when offered treats. Peeked out after door closed, eyes fully dilated, still wouldn’t leave den.

Reaction to assessor:: Speedy remains tense, crouched position on his cage bedding with head up during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Speedy becomes alert with eyes dilated, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Speedy gave an intense stare, ears flat and turned sideways.
Reaction to touch:: Speedy does not allow the touch. He growls, swipes, and hisses at the assessor’s hand avoiding any contact.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Speedy is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
