SPADE – A1097594
Safe - 12-6-2016 Manhattan
***SAFE 12/06/16 *** POSSIBLY BLIND – A volunteer writes: All of us at some point need to rely on others. Some may need more care, and if they’re lucky, a nurturing individual wants to provide that extra love. Spade can’t see, but he can hear, smell, taste and touch. He needs someone special in his life who wants to help make his life a good one. While his cage was being cleaned by another volunteer, I held him tightly in my arms. At first he struggled a bit; he didn’t know me, after all. But then he lay calm and relaxed in my arms for a long time, so we could both feel the warmth of the other, and he could feel secure. At one point, he buried his face in the crook of my elbow and breathed quietly. Being with Spade made me think of something Helen Keller wrote. She was deaf, mute and blind. At the age of 7, when she met Annie Sullivan, the woman who would become her teacher for much of her life, she wrote this: “I felt approaching footsteps. I stretched out my hand as I supposed to my mother. Someone took it, and I was caught up and held close in the arms of her who had come to reveal all things to me, and, more than all things else, to love me.” Are you that special person who’d want a special cat like Spade?
