SAFE 8/19/17 This fluffy sweetheart is a little unsure when she first meets people, but turns into a total lovebug with a little encouragement! A volunteer writes: When I first met Sookie my heart just broke. She looked at me with those beautiful, sad eyes. She seemed so lonely and a bit overwhelmed by the Shelter. I stayed with her for a while and gently spoke to her. At first she was a bit afraid when I reached into the cage but soon realized that I wanted to pet her and she started purring. She is a sweet, gentle little cat and needs a special someone who will be patient with her when she first arrives at her new home. If you want your heart to be tugged, please come by and visit her! Another volunteer writes: Hello, hello! My name is Sookie, and I’m a 3-year old brown tabby girl, and I’d like to make you an offer. Okay, here goes. I will give you head butts, follow you around the house, and be absolutely adorable while playing with but a simple ball and string. I will be your bestest four-legged friend, and in exchange, you’ll be mine! I think it’s a pretty good deal, if I do say so myself. And-bonus!–I’m a fan of being loved on, I love to purr, and I don’t even mind it if you brush my fur. If you’re willing to accept my offer, come on down and meet me today!

Enrichment::
07/11/17:
Lying in litterbox with ears forward, eyes alert. She stands up when I open the kennel door and comes forward to greet my hand with a soft head-butt. Allows petting along her head and body with tail raised. Allows all petting and handling. Doing great!
07/17/17:
Lying in litterbox with a flat body, head lowered. She allows petting along her head and body, leaning in and rolling over onto her side. She rolls around and purrs, head-butting her kennel door and raising her butt as my hand passes along her back, but doesn’t have enough confidence to come forward and leave her box or raise her tail. Seems to have become more timid since she first got here. Added to socialization list.
07/18/17:
Lying down near the front of the cage. Wide eyes, leans forward to sniff hand. Warms up with attention. Starts purring then rolls around on her side. Enjoys being pet all over, nudges hand and gives soft head butts. Her body perks up and her tail rises. She comes forward when coaxed and gently rubs against the cage furnishings. She’s a bit shy at first and needs you to make the first move. Gave her some treats and sprayed feliway.
