SMOKEY – A1083209
Gone - 8-7-2016 Manhattan
***GONE 08/07/16*** SMOKEY IS PERFECTLY HEALTHY AND WAS DUMPED BECAUSE HIS OWNER SAID SHE BECAME ALLERGIC TO HIM!! SMOKEY is only 5 years old and is already neutered. He is a very handsome tabby despite the somewhat less than flattering photo the shelter took of him. SMOKEY’s owner described him as shy but friendly. He allowed gentle petting on his assessment and leaned into scratching under his cheeks! Yet the ACC punished this shy cat with a EXPNOCHILD rating which seems a bit ridiculous and slapped him right on tonight’s list. SMOKEY is one of over 40 cats who are fighting for their life. There is nothing wrong with him other than he doesn’t like being in the shelter! No cat likes the shelter!! GET SMOKEY TO SAFETY NOW BY CONTACTING A RESCUE TO PULL HIM. IF YOU NEED INFO PLEASE EMAIL OUR HELP DESK AT [email protected]. DON’T LET THE ACC KILL THIS BOY JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN – BE HIS HERO TONIGHT!!

Smokey has no health problems and the owner has not taken him to a vet. Socialization: The owner states that around strangers Smokey is shy but friendly after a few minutes. He does not mind having his coat brushed but hates being picked up and being placed in a cat carrier (he will struggle and swat the person). 08/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Smokey’s previous owner reports he is shy around strangers, but is friendly after a few minutes. He has never been around children or other animals. He does not mind having his coat brushed, but doesn’t like being picked up and held and will struggle and swat to get away. He was described as a shy and friendly cat with a medium activity level. Reaction to assessor: Smokey was curled up inside a cardboard box. Reaction when softly spoken to: curls: Smokey peeks out slightly, but shifts back inside. Reaction to cage door opening: Smokey remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Smokey’s ears tilt sideways as the assessor shifts the box around and he becomes exposed. He accepts gentle petting and attempts to curl up in the box again. He leans in slightly when rubbed on his cheeks, but appears wary of his surroundings and begins to breathe rapidly. Behavior Determination: Experienced, No Children Smokey tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
