***SAFE 03/07/16*** THE OWNER OF SLOAN AND PIPER PASSED AND NOW THEY ARE DESPERATE FOR A NEW HOME!! Both cats are fixed and they both have EXPERIENCE ratings because they are afraid and unsure…..About SLOAN, A volunteer writes: Sloan is a beautiful gray cat with pretty eyes. Right now, though, Sloan’s eyes are wide with fear, and she stays in the back of her kennel most of the time. I couldn’t get her to come forward to eat yesterday, but I did get her to relax a bit while I stroked her pretty head. She was wary of my intentions, and drew back at first, but then she did relax, ever so slightly. This lovely girl needs just the right person to come along and adopt her, a patient person who is willing to let Sloan take her time getting used to her new surroundings. A quiet home with an experienced cat companion would be just the ticket, and the sooner the better…..BOTH OF THESE CATS NEED SOME TIME AND TLC PRONTO!! If you can help please apply to FOSTER or ADOPT NOW!! If you need assistance, email [email protected]

02/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sloan was brought in without any information on her behavioral tendencies in a home environment. She was very vocal during her initial medical exam, and will attempt to flee if given the chance. However, she allowed handling when wrapped in a towel. Reaction to Assessor: Sloan lowers her body and attempts to hide behind her litter box. Reaction when softly spoken to: Sloan lifts her head up and looks at the assessor. She eventually blinks and averts her gaze. Reaction to cage door opening: Sloan attempts to hide behind her litter box again. Reaction to touch: Sloan was hesitant, but she remains in place and allows petting. She slowly warms up to touch and will lean into petting, purr, and head-butt when comfortable. She gets up and shows interest in interacting with the assessor, but seems wary of the environment. Reaction to being picked up: Sloan remains calm and nuzzles her head into the assessor’s arms. Placement Determination: Experience Sloan tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
