I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 07/29/2017 from NY 11369, owner surrender reason stated was TOO MANY P. I came in with Group/Litter #K17-105984.

Skinny A1120174 is at risk due to behavior. Skinny appears neutral when approached for interaction, but appears to tense up and focus on the assessor. She also focuses on the surroundings and appears unsure. She accepts gentle petting, but has a tense body during the interaction and would turn to focus on the assessor’s hand when touched along her body.

07/29/17 12:26 Basic Information: Skinny is a 1 year old cat who was surrendered with another house cat due to the owner having too many pets. Skinny has no known illness. Socialization: Around strangers Skinny is shy for a few days and has never been around children or dogs so it is unknown how Skinny will react towards them. Skinny is relaxed and affectionate towards other cats and has lived with many other cats of all ages. Behavior: Skinny has never bitten/scratched another person/animal. Skinny is quiet when riding in a car. Skinny previous owner did not attempt to give Skinny a bath, trim Skinny nails or brush Skinny coat so it is unknown how Skinny will react to those events. Skinny enjoys being picked up/held. Skinny is not bothered by being placed in a carrier or disturbed while resting/sleeping. For a new family to know: Skinny is described as shy and playful with a medium activity level. When at home Skinny will stay in a favorite spot and doesn’t play with toys. Skinny spends time outdoors and indoors and is somewhat litter box trained with an uncovered litter box. Skinny eats both wet and dry food and will scratch on furniture. Intake Behavior: Skinny was shy during intake and kept trying to hide. Skinny allowed staff to collar, scan for a microchip and take pictures.

KNOWN HISTORY: Indoor and outdoor cat Previously lived with: Adults and many cats of all ages Behavior toward strangers: Shy for a few days Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Relaxed and affectionate Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Somewhat, uses an uncovered litter box Energy level/descriptors: Skinny is described as shy and playful with a medium activity level. Other notes: When at home Skinny will stay in a favorite spot and doesn’t play with toys. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Tense but allowed all handling ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/30/17 Sitting crouched in back of kennel, ears forward. She allows petting along her head and body, sniffing my hand curiously with ears forward. Needs some time to adjust. 07/31/17 Sitting crouched in back of kennel, eyes wide. She sniffs the air as I pen the treat bag and sniffs the treat I place down next to her. Not comfortable enough yet to eat them in front of me. Tolerates petting along her head and body while backing away, tail rapped round body and body stiff. Eyes are squinted closed. Needs more time to adjust. 08/01/17 Sitting in back of kennel with a tense body, eyes alert. She begins to back away as I reach towards her slowly. She comes forward to sniff the treats I place by her but isn’t comfortable enough to treat them in front of me yet. Tolerates petting along her head and body with stiff arms, eyes wide as breathing becomes rapid. Needs more time to adjust. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Skinny was lying down, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Skinny looks at the assessor with dilated eyes, and then averts her gaze and looks around. Reaction to cage door opening: Skinny becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Skinny sniffs the assessor’s hand and was hesitant of contact, but she accepts petting and warms up. She blinks softly during petting and remains calm. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Calm RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Skinny tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
