09/05/17 13:09 Basic information: Skeeter is a 3 year old neutered male, black and white DSH. He was found as a stray 1 month ago and kept because his finder thought he was really sweet. He was surrendered due to health concerns. The last time he went to the vet was 7/29/17 for an eye injury. Socialization: Around strangers Skeeter is shy for a few moments and then warms up and is friendly. He has not been around any children or other pets while with his previous owner. Behavior: Skeeter has never attempted to bite a person or animal while with his previous owner. He isn’t bothered if he is given a bath, if his nails are trimmed, if his coat is brushed, if he is picked up, placed in a carrier or disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Skeeter is described as friendly, playful, mellow, shy and quiet with a medium activity level. When his previous owner was home he would tend to be in the same room. He likes to play with balls and was kept indoors. At night he liked to sleep on a high shelf. He ate Purina dry food. He is house trained and used an uncovered litter box and clumping litter. He had a horizontal scratching post made of cardboard but didn’t like using it. He preferred the carpet. Behavior during intake: Skeeter had a tense body and would lean back and squint his eyes if approached. He had a low body when touched. He allowed me to pet him, collar him and pick him up.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet KNOWN HISTORY: During intake, Skeeter had a tense body and would lean back and squint his eyes if approached. He had a low body when touched. He allowed me to pet him, collar him and pick him up. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/5/17- Observed Behavior – allows exam ENRICHMENT NOTES: 9/6/17- In cubby on approach, came out when offered treats. Seemed a little unsure. Briefly retreated back into cubby when door opened. Started to allow, then lean into pets, purred. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Skeeter remains neutral, sitting upright by the front during the approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Sketter seems curious and engages with tail up. Reaction to cage door opening: Skeeter went to lie down on his cage bedding, ears erect and forward. Reaction to touch: Skeeter seems hesitant, slowly leans into the assessor’s hand while he appreciates the petting. Reaction to being picked up: He becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average The cat interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
