Hello, my name is Simba. My animal id is #20217. I am a female white cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 08-Feb-2018.
Simba 20217 is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Simba is stressed in the shelter environment and would do well in a home with an experienced pet parent.
My medical notes are…
Weight: 5.08 lbs

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Simba was brought into our care center as a stray so we have no previous history available.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 02/08/18 Fled from cage. Was netted for exam.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Simba is lying in his litterbox with a tense, flat body, head lowered onto floor as the assessor approaches.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Simba lifts her head slightly and peeks out from the edge of his litterbox when spoken to softly.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Simba tilts her ears as the cage door opens and avoids eye contact.
Reaction to touch:: Simba tolerates petting along herhead and body while remaining very still and flattening her ears.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Simba has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Simba tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
