SAFE 7/13/18 **BLIND** 8 year old SHAKIRA was found left behind in a house when her owner moved. She is blind, extremely matted, missing her canine teeth, and has need of further medical eval to determine if there is anything else going on with her. SHAKIRA needs a home where she can get follow up care and a little extra TLC after all she’s been through. Please help her today.

Oral Exam: calculus and staining
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic
ABD: tense, discomfort on palpation, suspect possible distension but could not view properly due to long hair
U/G: Need to check after sedated groom – pt fratious
MSI: Severe widespread thick matting over entire dorsal back
CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities
Rectal: externally normal
Assessment:
1_ Poor BCS
2_ Severe Matting
3_ Tachycardia
4_ Abdomen firm and uncomfortable on palpation
5_ Blind – absent PLR and Mydriasis
Prognosis: Fair
Plan:
1) Sedated Groom to remove matts and confirm spay neuter status
2) CBC + CHEM + T4
3) +/- Abdominal Xrays depending on Blood work results
SURGERY:
Permanent waiver due to health condition
Recheck with sedated exam for heavily matted coat:
QARH – sedated for grooming
– heavily matted coat along back half of dorsum and moderately matted coat along ventrum
– mild amount of feces stuck in hair around tail and on paws
– missing all canine teeth, heavy tartar/severe dental dz pocketing around max. molars
*faint ~ 1 cm scar ventral midline abdomen, no mammary development
r/o spay scar vs other
*CBC/Chem/T4: mod. anemia, neutrophilia, monocytosis, eosinopenia, slight decr. BUN + Ca
r/o infect./inflam dz vs stress vs metabolic vs other
P: 0.8 ml Clavamox PO BID x 7 days, recheck PE/BW
– presumed spayed, rec’ BW or sx explore to confirm
