Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Shadow is friendly around strangers and he plays gently with adults. He has never been around children or other cats but has lived with a small dog and was relaxed and affectionate towards him. Shadow often scratches at the furniture and likes going outside. Shadow enjoys being brushed, picked up/held and doesn’t mind being placed in a carrier. His owner describes him as affectionate, playful, shy and talkative with a high activity level. At home Shadow will follow around his owner and likes to play with wand toys. Reaction to assessor: Shadow was at the front of the kennel gently head butting the kennel door with his tail erect. Reaction when softly spoken to: Shadow leans forward to sniff the assessor then gently reaches out with paws. Reaction to cage door opening: Shadow is calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Shadow was hesitant at first then he sniffs the assessor’s hand and leans in allowing cheek rubs. He enjoys being pet on his head but gets a little uncomfortable when touched along his body. His body feels a bit tense and he tends to whip around focus on the assessor’s hand then grumbles. Reaction to being picked up: Shadow was a bit tense when picked up, allows all handling then gets antsy after a while and starts to low growl. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Shadow tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
