11/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Shade was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Reaction to assessor: Shade was curled up tight on her blanket near the front of the kennel with her head lowered. Reaction when softly spoken to: Shade avoids eye contact, has a tense body and doesn’t come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Shade hisses then looks around at her surroundings. Reaction to touch: Shade leans her head back with ears bent flat and hisses when the assessor extends his hand out. She lip licks with eyes focused on the assessor’s hand , allows no contact then slowly shifts away to the back of the kennel. Please note that Shade is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Shade is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
