Intake Type: Stray
Medical Behavior: Orange
Sex: Spayed Female
Age: 2 years
Original Location: 11212
KNOWN HISTORY:
Sara Bernhardt was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
05/22/18
Growling, hissing, swatting, limited exam performed
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
05/23/18
Low body posture, pupils dilated, hisses when I approach the kennel. Seems to be displaying conflicted behaviors. Comes forward when I extend my hand, sniffs, then rubs up for attention. Tail rises up, gives head butts, but continues to vocalize and hiss throughout interaction. Seems a bit skittish; becomes reactive with sudden movements.
05/27/18
Standing in front of kennel ears forward. Head-butts kennel door and remains in the front as kennel door opens. Allows petting while leaning in with energy and purring. Tail raises. Very affectionate – doing great! Allows all petting for duration of today’s session.
05/28/18
Lying in front of kennel, body relaxed and ears forward. Kneads kennel door and purrs when spoken to. Rolls over onto side. She stands up as the kennel door opens and allows petting along her head and body while leaning in and raising tail. Tail sways back and forth and she pauses on occasion to nip my hand, then continues to lean in and solicit attention. Nips and licks. Showing signs of overstimulation. Nips were gentle and did not break glove or skin for duration of today’s session.
Cage Condition:
Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:
Sara Bernhardt comes forward slowly while grumbling. Her ears rotate, tail quivers then she rubs up against the cage door.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Sara Bernhardt rolls over on her side and rubs her cheeks against the cage furnishings.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Sara Bernhardt flinches slightly and low growls.
Reaction to touch:
Sara Bernhardt’s pupils dilate, and she leans forward slowly to sniff the assessor. She brushes up against his hand, stands on her hind legs giving head butts and allows slow petting along her body. She appreciates attention, but appears conflicted and vocalizes (grumbling and low growling) throughout the interaction.
