***SAFE 07/21/16*** SANDY IS JUST 11 MONTHS OLD AND YET ANOTHER VICTIM OF BEING DUMPED DUE TO “ALLERGIES!!” He’s just a kitten and already NEUTERED so he’s ready to go! He was described by the former owner as, “playing exuberantly.” He was OK during assessment until after being pet a few times, started to act out. He may have a petting – induced aggression which is a type of behavior where the cat can be overstimulated. But, can be remedied easily, as your competent vet will tell you! He needs a quiet home with EXPERIENCE and no kids! Please, offer to FOSTER OR ADOPT this adorable boy…or “THE SUN MAY NOT COME OUT FOR HIM TOMORROW!”

07/11/16 13:08 BASIC INFO Sandy is an 11 month old neutered DSH cat. His owner found him when he was 1 month old and surrendered him due to landlord conflict and allergies. SOCIALIZATION Sandy is friendly/outgoing with new people. He plays exuberantly. He and a female cat visited each other regularly. He was relaxed and playful with her. He hasn’t bit/scratched anyone. BEHAVIOR Sandy is relaxed in the car. He enjoys being brushed. He doesn’t mind when someone picks him up, holds him, puts him in a carrier, or wakes him up. He’s nervous when wrapped in a towel for nail trims. He struggles during baths. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Sandy’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, and medium energy. He follows his owner, sits in her lap, and lounges / naps on her back or laptop. He plays with string, wand toys, stuffed toys, and noisy toys. He lived inside and slept on a bed or chair. He ate dry and wet 9 Lives food and got chicken as a treat. He’s uses an uncovered litterbox with woodchips or clumping litter. He used to spray urine frequently. He’s only sprayed twice since being neutered 1 month ago. He hasn’t had accidents besides spraying. He scratches a vertical carpeted post and an ottoman. INTAKE Sandy was tense while I picked him up, held him, pet him, scanned him (-), collared him, and positioned him for pictures. He seemed tolerant at first but hissed while I was petting his head after re-positioning him a few times. When I extended my hand, he retreated his head. He was tense while his owner held him and placed him in a carrier.

07/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sandy’s former owner stated he is friendly/outgoing with new people. He plays exuberantly. He and a female cat visited each other regularly. He was relaxed and playful with her. Also, described him as friendly, affectionate, playful, and medium energy. He follows his former owner, sits in her lap, and lounges / naps on her back or laptop. Reaction to assessor: Sandy looks neutral, sitting upright by the front of the cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Sandy stands with tail up, relaxed body posture, alert with eyes wandering. Reaction to touch: Sandy leans into the assessor’s hand and appreciates petting on the head and body. However, after a few strokes he paused for a second then looks at the hand and began to swat to stop the interaction. Placement determination: Experience / no child Initially Sandy solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body he begins to swat at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Sandy becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
