SAMMIE – A1076261

**SAFE 06/09/16** PERFECTLY HEALTHY SAMMIE WAS DUMPED FOR LITTER BOX ISSUES BUT OWNER GAVE NO INFO TO WHETHER VET WAS CONSULTED OR MEASURES TO HELP WERE DONE!!! We hate seeing these lame excuses by owners when their cat has a litter box problem. Poor SAMMIE is perfectly healthy and was said to be friendly, playful, and gentle. She also lived with a 5 year old child and was also gentle with them. Yet, this owner has stated SAMMIE would go outside the box and for 8 months he has never taken to the vet to see if it were a medical reason. Nor do we know if this owner kept a clean litter box, changed litter brands, or maybe the cat just didn’t like the hooded box which retains odors!! Why is it that the issue is solved by dumping the cat in a kill shelter? I would venture to say that this was an easy fix and now poor SAMMIE is facing DEATH at noon Thursday. SAMMIE is only 1 year old and spayed already. Just a grown kitten. We find it difficult to believe that SAMMIE would not respond to some behavior modification by an experienced cat owner. BE SAMMIE’S HERO TONIGHT. GIVE THIS BEAUTIFUL HOUSE PANTHERETTE A HAPPY ENDING BY CONTACTING A RESCUE TO PULL HER TO SAFETY NOW!!

06/04/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/04/16 15:41 Basic Information: Sammie is a 1 year old spayed female. She was given to her previous owner as a gift when she was a few weeks old. She was surrendered because she has been urinating outside of her litter box. The last time she went to the vet was in November. Socialization: Around strangers Sammie is friendly and outgoing and when she played with adults she was gentle. She lived with a 5 year old child. With him she was respectful and when she played she was gentle. She was not around other pets. Behavior: Sammie has never attempted to bite a person or animal. In car rides she is relaxed. For the past 8 months Sammie has been urinating on soft surfaces weekly. Her previous owners have never attempted to give her a bath, trim her nails, or brush her coat. She enjoys being picked up. She isn’t bothered if she is placed in a carrier or disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Sammie is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy and independent. She has a medium activity level. The two things her previous owner liked most about her were; she’s mellow and greedy. When her previous owner was home she would follow her around. She liked to play with string. She was kept indoors only. At night she slept in her previous owner’s bed. She ate dry Friskies and Purina. She is litter box trained and used a hooded litter box and clumping cat litter. She scratched on furniture made of fabric. Behavior during intake: Sammie head-butted and allowed me to pet her, collar her and take pictures. When a dog came into the room she backed away, her ears turned to the side and her back hair raised. She still however allowed all handling and she showed no signs of aggression.

06/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sammie’s former owner stated around strangers she is friendly and outgoing and when she played with adults she was gentle. She lived with a 5 year old child. With him she was respectful and when she played she was gentle. She was not around other pets. Also described her as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy and independent. She has a medium activity level. Reaction to assessor: Sammie looks neutral in the cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Sammie remains lying down in her cat den, alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Sammie accepts the stroke and slowly began to lean into the assessor’s hand, but began to grumble in place. When touched on her back she becomes agitated then hisses to stop the interaction. Placement determination: Experience / no child Sammie tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children. Sammie’s previous owner reports that she was eliminating (urinating) outside the litterbox, but we are unaware of what, if any, modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior. We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a home environment after treatment for the medical condition has been completed, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home environment.
