SAFE 3/28/16 A volunteer writes: I opened up Sammie’s cage door, he was just laying in the back, but give this sweet boy time to warm up you will see how wonderful he is. Once he warmed up he’ll seek head rubs. He will eventually roll on his side allowing chin rubs. He enjoys body rubs looking like he wants to be brushed. When you stop Sammie will come rub against the cage looking for more, which you can’t resist doing. So come check out this nice kitty, you will find that he is a special boy.

Behavior:
As per previous owner, Sammie is a sweet but shy cat. Sammie usually hides when strangers are around. After Sammie warms up he will smell you while still keeping his distance. Sammie has only been around one other cat and he kept his distance. Sammie did not try to play with the other cat. Sammie has no previous experience with any dogs and children.
Reaction to assessor: Sammie does not come to front but remains neutral
When spoken quietly: Sammie turns his head and ignores the assessor
Reaction to door cage opening: Sammie remains motionless
Reaction to touch: Sammie seems indifferent to my presence and touch at first but eventually warms up.
Try picking cat up: Sammie tolerant of this type of handling but tense.
Behavior Determination: Experience
At the time of the assessment Sammie was displaying timid behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Remains as I started to get closer but after a steady slow approach using soft voices he relaxed a little. I was able to pet him and interact with him. I was also able to pick him up and although he was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
Enrichment:
03/15/16 Tuesday (Day 1)

03/16/16 Wednesday (Day 2)

03/17/16 Thursday (Day 3)
