I am a male brn tabby and black domestic sh mix. The shelter thinks I am about 7 MONTHS old.
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 11/05/2016 from NY 11236, owner surrender reason stated was TOO HYPER. I came in with Group/Litter #K16-080538.

Basic information sam is a 7 month neutered male. He was owner surrender due to The cats activity level. There are no known injuries or health concerns owner is aware of. Socialization Around strangers, he is friendly and outgoing by rubbing on them. He doesn’t like to be pet too long and has attempted to scratch previous owner. He has lived with a 6 and 8 year old. Around children he is respectful and tolerant but does not play with them or with adults. He was with another littermate in household and they played rough together. There were no dogs living in household. There is no bite history of a person or animal. Behavior Owner stated that he scratched furniture and has eaten there fish before. Owner stated he swats at people if they pet him to long and knocks things over. He meows in car rides. There are no litterbox issues. Owner has never given a cat a bath or trims the nails. He struggles with brushing of coat and is afraid of being picked up. He struggles getting in carrier. For the new family to know Owner stated he is playful, confident, assertive, and talkative. His activity level is very high. When owner is home he rarely seeks attention and likes balls, strings, and catnip toys. He was kept mostly indoors and eats both dry and wet food. He is litterboxed trained and uses a uncovered litterbox with clumping litter. He has a scratching post but scratches on furniture. Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Sam meows softly then comes forward out of his cubby and rubs up against the kennel door. Reaction when softly spoken to: Sam starts to purr softly and reaches out with paws for attention. Reaction to cage door opening: Sam is calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Sam brushes up against the assessor for attention, purrs softly when rubbed and allows petting all over. His tail pilo-erects when interacting with him, he continues soliciting attention and he is incredibly affectionate. Reaction to being picked up: Sam is calm, relaxed and nuzzles up in the assessor’s arms. Behavior Determination: Average Sam interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. His owners report that he can play rough and he gets upset when pet for too long. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents. 11/08/16 As per previous owner, Sam is friendly and outgoing around strangers and doesn’t like to be pet for long periods of time. He lived with a 6 and 8 year old child and was respectful and tolerant of them. Sam never lived with dogs but has lived with another cat and was relaxed and played rough with him. His owner stated that he scratched at their furniture, struggles when being brushed and is afraid of being picked up. Sam is described as playful, confident, assertive and talkative with a high energy level. When owner is home he rarely seeks attention and likes balls, strings, and catnip toys. Reaction to assessor: Sam meows softly and reaches out with paws (claws out) trying to get the assessor’s attention. Reaction when softly spoken to: Sam rolls around playful, is demanding of attention and continues to rub up and reach out towards the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Sam is relaxed and eager to get out and greet the assessor. Reaction to touch: Sam rubs up against the assessor, meows softly and allows petting all over his body. His tail pilo-erects, he rolls around when rubbed on his cheeks and appreciates attention. He can play a bit rough but is very sweet and is incredibly affectionate. Reaction to being picked up: Sam remains calm when picked up, looks around then jumps back into the kennel. Behavior Determination: Experience Sam may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
