Observed Behavior – timid
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
05/11/18
Low body posture, pressed up against the back of the cubby. Ears bend slightly, lip licks as I approach. Tolerates attention, remains completely immobile throughout the interaction. Wasn’t interested in treats. Needs more time to adjust.
05/13/18
Lying in cubby, body low and tense. Head is lowered onto kennel floor and concealed behind box. Tolerates petting along head and body while tucking tail beneath body and flattening ears further. Burrows head behind box in an attempt to remain hidden. Sniffs treats offered but doesn’t eat them during our interaction. Nervous and unsure, may do better in room 6 or 12. Rm 1 seems to be too overwhelming. Needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:
Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:
Sam was hunched over, hiding his head behind the litter box.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Sam does not respond.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Sam curls his body in more and appears tense, still trying to hide behind his litter box.
Reaction to touch:
Sam remains immobile and allows gentle petting all over. He doesn’t seem to mind attention, but his body remains tense and he lip licks.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Sam has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may be uncomfortable with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step.
