SALEM – A1063747
Safe - 2-5-2016 Brooklyn
** SAFE 02/05/16** “Chemical burns”—what?! SALEM is a beautiful orange-and-white girl who entered the shelter system with what appear to be CHEMICAL BURNS, of all things. What has this poor cat already been through? Her shelter notes reveal a cat who seems to want to be a total love bug, but who is just a little bit wary. That’s probably because her boo-boo’s hurt, and she might be remembering HOW she came to have those burns. Make everything right in SALEM’s world again, by stepping up to FOSTER or ADOPT her, tonight!

01/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Salem was looked at before her evaluation. At the time she was curled up in the corner with her ears perked up and eyes dilated. She was also lip licking and hissed on approach. Reaction to assessor: Salem looked at the assessor nervously When spoken quietly: Salem looked at the assessor nervously Reaction to door cage opening: Salem remains motionless Reaction to touch: Salem allows petting with a slow approach. She also leans into head rubs Try picking cat up: Did not attempt ue to Salem wounds Behavior Determination: Experience Salem was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. At the time of the assessment she was displaying timid behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Remained motionless as I started to get closer but after a steadys low approach using soft voices she relaxed a little. I was able to pet her and interact with her in a limited way. Although she was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. 1/31 update: Salem continues to avoid interaction and has been difficult to treat for her medical condition. She seems to warm up with interaction but is initially frightened of visitors. We feel that moving into a stable home environment quickly is in her best interest.
