11/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sabrina was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She allowed all handling upon intake and during her initial medical exam. The medical team reports she dislikes restraint, and will allow handling if you are gentle with her. The enrichment facilitator reports she displayed fearful behavior during their first interaction and was hunched over by the back, with a low body posture. She turns away from attention and avoids eye contact. She was more relaxed the second day, but continued to lie low. She appreciated head rubs, though. She displayed similar behaviors during her third day and still appeared unsure, but appreciated head rubs and attention. She was sensitive to petting on her rear and belly. Reaction to assessor: Sabrina was lying down with her paws tucked under her body, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Sabrina places her head on her blanket and extends one of her front paws. Reaction to cage door opening: Sabrina remains calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Sabrina sniffs the assessor’s hand, but was slightly hesitant of contact. She accepts petting with a slow approach and leans in for cheek rubs. Her ears tilt sideways during head rubs, but she head-butts during petting. She becomes tense and focuses on the assessor’s hand when touched on her back, however, and will hiss with continued contact. She grumbles slightly, but no further reaction was displayed. Behavior Determination: Experienced Sabrina tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
