SAFE 2/4/17 A volunteer writes: This feisty redhead is very playful. She is a young kitten with an outgoing, curious personality. Ruby is a jewel of a companion who enjoys a good game of hide and seek. Like Dorothy with the ruby slippers, this sweet girl knows there’s no place like home and she is looking for her forever home. Will it be with you?

Reaction to assessor: Ruby was curled up and resting at the back of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Ruby stretches her body then slowly turns towards the assessor and meows softly.
Reaction to cage door opening: Ruby remains calm.
Reaction to touch: Ruby closes her eyes when pet and leans in when rubbed on her cheeks. She appreciates attention and doesn’t seem to mind petting along her body as long you go slowly. She tenses up and low growls letting you know when she’s had enough contact.
ENRICHMENT NOTES: 01/29/17
Social and friendly, but hesitant to leave cubby this morning. Got a bit feisty with prolonged attention and touching along back and rear, may resist being picked up. Seems anxious and unsure. Was able to coax out of the cubby most of the way with chicken, but not entirely; she’d retreat quickly. Didn’t fully come out of cubby until I closed kennel door. Loves a small catnip-infused plush toy. Has really adorable salt & pepper whiskers.

Somewhat tense this morning, resisted being touched. Possibly getting sick? Sounds a bit congested. Appetite is good, using box appropriately, drinking water. Adorable, somewhat feisty ginger girl. Will add to socialization list.

Social and friendly this a.m., right at front of cage, soliciting attention (and breakfast). Packed up for transport to Glendale for S/N. She groused a little bit when I went to pick her up, but it was easy to do so and there was no struggle moving her and placing in the carrier. Adorable little girl.

Seems to always be in her cubby sleeping, with relaxed posture. Has always seemed as if something has been bothering her, can be selective about what handling she wants; at times, she prefers none. Seems to really enjoy head rubs, can be sensitive about other areas. S/N yesterday. Gorgeous ginger girl, just a kitten still at 8mos.

In cubby, as usual, curled up and relaxed, resting peacefully. Rarely see her outside the cubby, seems unusual. She was calm and friendly and quiet when I opend cubby door, let me give head scratches, stayed relaxed throughout. Will check on her again later.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Shy
RECOMMENDATIONS:
_x_ Experienced, adult home only
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Experienced, Adult Only
Ruby tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his/her new home and family at her own pace.
