She has dental disease and is nervous in the shelter. She is also a big girl and may benefit from some weight loss. She’s a kind and gentle gal ready to be your couch cuddler and companion. Hello, my name is Ruby. My animal id is #10724. I am a desexed female black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 25-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – going into care facility.
Ruby is at risk due to her geriatric condition in combination with her dental disease and obesity. She will need a weight loss plan of 5-8 lbs and dental. At this time there are no know behavior concerns for Ruby.

Subjective: Alert, doesn’t move around Observed Behavior – Tense, allows most handling but becomes very tense with oral exam Objective BAR-H, MMs pink and moist, BCS 9+/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Moderate tartar PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Female, reported spayed MSI: Ambulatory x 4, fur coat slightly greasy. No masses of parasites noted. CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally Assessment: 1. Obese 2. Dental disease Prognosis: Fair Plan: 1. Basic Information:: Ruby is a 10 year old spayed cat. She was found 9 years ago in a tree. Her owner moved to an assisted living facility.

How is this cat around strangers?: Ruby is friendly/outgoing with strangers.
How is this cat around children?: Children of all ages visited the home and Ruby is tolerant and playful with them.
How is this cat around other cats?: Ruby’s family had an adult male cat staying with them for 6 months. The cat would follow, charge at, and swat at her. Ruby would avoid the cat and run away. If cornered, she would hiss and raise her paw.
How is this cat around dogs?: Ruby’s family had a large dog and they were affectionate, playful, and tolerant together. They would eat out of the same bowl at the same time (Ruby would lick the wet food).
Behavior Notes: Ruby doesn’t mind being picked up, brushed, woken up, or put in the carrier.

Energy level/descriptors:: Affectionate, friendly, mellow, medium energy
Has this cat ever had any medical issues?: No
For a New Family to Know: Ruby follows her owner and comes when called. She enjoys sitting in laps and being pet. She lived inside and slept with her owner. Ruby ate wet Sheba and dry Friskies Surfin’ and Turfin’ food. Ruby is littertrained, used an open litterbox with clumping litter, and didn’t have accidents. Ruby scratched a vertical carpeted scratching post.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – Tense, allows most handling but becomes very tense with oral exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Resting in litter box, eyes a little dilated, but soft posture. Lay in place when door opened, leaned into pets, closed eyes, seemed to doze off.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Ruby remains neutral, lying down on her cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Ruby becomes alert and looks towards the assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Ruby stands with tail up and eyes wide open, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Ruby slowly engages the front, leans into the assessor’s hand and appreciates the petting. During the interaction, she becomes a bit cautious with her surroundings and slowly draws back into a sitting position when she hears sudden noises.
Reaction to being picked up:: She briefly allows the pickup then becomes then jumps back into the cage.
