***SAFE 10/17/16***RESCUE SAYS, “RESCUE ME!”-TRAUMATIZED HOUSE PET NEEDS NEW FRIEND! Sad sigh! Two year old terrific tabby, Rescue lived with her former family since she was a kitten. Yet when they decided to move and not take her and her feline friend, PJ – A1092744 (still available) along, this purrfect pair got dumped at the kill happy shelter. Rescue was described by her former owner as “gentle, mellow and affectionate. She enjoys belly rubs and chin rubs and will meow softly when she wants attention.” Yet since this poor girl was betrayed by her people, she is not a happy camper at the shelter and has been slapped with a New Hope rating. Rescue is already spayed and needs a kind purrson to offer her a new “leash” on life and the chance to decompress from her shelter experience. Please give her that opportunity by offering to foster or adopt. Email our help desk and we will help you through the process–[email protected] Rescue deserves a second chance but won’t get it unless YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN. So rescue Rescue NOW!!!!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Rescue has lived with a 5 year old and a 1 year old and was affectionate and let them pet her. She is shy around strangers for a few then warms up and sniffs them. She has lived with a male cat and was playful and respectful with him. Rescue allows having her coat brushed and doesn’t mind being petted or picked up. Her owner describes her as gentle, mellow and affectionate. She enjoys belly rubs and chin rubs and will meow softly when she wants attention. Reaction to assessor: Rescue was curled up inside her litter box with her head lowered and started growling at the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Rescue has wide eyes focused on all movements and doesn’t come forward. Reaction to cage door opening: Rescue remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Rescue has her body lowered, ears bent flat and hisses when the assessor extends his hand out. She continues to hiss and will shift away with her tail lowered and allows no contact. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Rescue is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
