05/08/17 17:02 Basic Information: Rambo is a 2 year old Neutered Gray/White DSH. The owner received the cat from his mother that could no longer take care of Rambo. The reason why Rambo is being surrendered is because the owner’s son has asthma and allergies. Rambo has no known health issues or injuries, and his last vet visit was last year. Socialization: Rambo is shy and fearful around strangers. He takes a while to come out and show his presence. He has spent time with children ages 2, 11; he is not so tolerant around the younger child. But around the 11 yr. old he is way more tolerant. When he plays with adults he is gentle, and enjoys somewhat rough play; Rambo is the same with the older child. Rambo has spent time with another cat in the home; he was fearful and hides; made whining sounds while under the bed. He hasn’t bit/scratched anyone. Behavior: While taking car rides Rambo will sleep, he enjoys his coat being brushed. Rambo isn’t bothered being picked up, placed in carrier, disturb while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Rambo is described as playful shy at times, his activity level is a medium. His favorite toys are balls, mouse with a string, and toys that play music. Rambo is mostly an indoors cat; he enjoys Fancy Feast wet/dry foods 3 times a day. He is housetrained and uses an uncovered litter box with crystal cat litter. 05/18/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults and children (ages 2 & 11) Behavior toward strangers: Shy and fearful. Behavior toward children: He is not so tolerant around the younger child but was more relaxed with the older child Behavior toward cats: Fearful and hides Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Shy and playful at times, with a medium activity level MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Untouchable without net–screaming, striking very limited exam ENRICHMENT NOTES: 05/16/17 Lying in litterbox with a low body and flat ears. Makes eye contact when spoken to. Tolerates petting along head and body while lowering himself in his litterbox and hiding his face behind his paw. Needs more time to adjust. 05/17/17 Lying in litterbox with a low body and ears flat. He backs away as I approach and tolerates petting while becoming tense and backing away hissing. Not interested in treats today. Gave kuranda bed. 05/18/17 Curled up tight in his litter box, tense, eyes fixated on my movements. Ears bend slightly, looks uncomfortable. Immobile, doesn’t react when coaxed. Low growls and shifts body weight when the kennel door opens. Flinches when touched, starts to breathe rapidly. Keeps his body as low as possible. Lip licks throughout the interaction. POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Rambo has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. He/she may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
