PUMPKIN – A1065960
Safe - 3-8-2016 Brooklyn Rescue: Happy Homes Please honor your pledges: http://www.happyhomesinc.org/
***SAFE 03/08/16***SADNESS! Stunning PUMPKIN was brought to the ACC as a stray, and what did the shelter medical staff discover when they first examined him? “Deeply gouged self-inflicted scratches behind both ears,” and those ears were crusted over and full of fluid. POOR PUMPKIN! That must have been incredibly uncomfortable for him, yet this super dude rocked an EXPERIENCE rating on his behavioral evaluation. Everyone knows that orange cats tend to be big, mushy lovebugs and Pumpkin needs the chance to bear that out! Please find a FOSTER/ADOPTER who will step up for him tonight, or he could be the first cat they kill tomorrow afternoon…..

03/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Update 03/07/16: Pumpkin does not appear to be thriving and he has begun to hiss and growl when approached for interaction. He is only allowing limited interaction and no longer allows handling. Due to this change in behavior, we believe it is in Pumpkin’s best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents who will allow him time to warm up to his new environment at his own pace. Date: 02/29/16 Pumpkin was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was tense and had dilated pupils upon intake, and would attempt to flee when handled. He did, however, allow all handling during his initial medical exam. Reaction to Assessor: Pumpkin was lying down, calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Pumpkin looks at the assessor and slowly blinks. Reaction to cage door opening: Pumpkin remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Pumpkin remains in place and allows petting on his head and along his body. He leans into petting and stretches his paws out. Reaction to being picked up: Pumpkin remains calm and allows handling. Placement Determination: Average Pumpkin interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
