SAFE 5/14/17 Our handsome fluffy senior Puffy is ready to go to the perfect retirement home with the perfect forever family! He’s lived with the same family almost his entire life, so it’s unsurprising that he can be a little unsure of new people. With a little patience, however, he has shown himself to be affectionate, sweet as can be, adorable, and even attention-seeking! This fluffy purrmachine is waiting for his new family, take him home today! Puffy will need follow up medical care for his likely chronic kidney disease, and would be happiest in an experienced kitty home where he can explore and adjust at his own pace.

Enrichment::
04/27/17:
At front of kennel when I approach, hissing with his ears back. Makes eyes contact when spoken to and hisses, body tense. He watches the bear-claw as it moves towards him and backs away, hissing and swatting at it before it can reach his head. Not interested in further interaction today – still needs more time to adjust. Not interested in treats today. Sprayed feliway.
04/28/17:
Alert at the front, growls when I approach the kennel. Tried talking to him softly to relax him.
Eventually leans forward to sniff hand. Rubs cheeks and allows petting through the door. Backs away when the door opens, grumbles when attempting pet. Did some clicker training, rewarded when he allowed me to pet him. Very food motivated.
04/29/17:
Curiously looking around at his surroundings. Sniffs hand through bars then gently rubs his cheeks against the door. She seems a lot more confident today. Didn’t hiss or get upset when I opened the door. He immediately came forward to solicit attention. Brushes against my hand, gives soft head butts and appreciates attention. He occasionally whips around when rubbed along his lower back, focuses briefly then goes back to soliciting. Doesn’t mind being picked up/held. Remains calm in my arms. Doing great!
05/02/17:
Sitting in cubby with a relaxed body when I approach. He comes forward to sniff my hand and allows petting along his head and body. He stands up and comes forward for more petting, raising his tail and head-butting my hand. He remained relaxed and enjoyed petting for the duration of our session. Friendly and social behavior today – he’s showing much improvement since day one. Doing well in adoptions.
05/03/17:
In cubby, looking out with soft eyes. Sniffs my hand when offered and was a bit hesitant, but accepts petting and pushes head against hand. With some coaxing, he comes out and solicits attention, constantly nudging my hand with his head and purrs. Very sweet and affectionate. Tail sways a bit, but seems to appreciate petting and attention.
05/06/17:
Reports that he’s been displaying conflicted behavior. Social & affectionate then shortly after hissing and yowling. Was relaxed and friendly when I first approached him. Leans in for petting, purrs when rubbed, appreciates attention. Starts yowling and hissing a couple minutes later when no one was interacting with him. Tried clicker training him a little to distract him.
05/07/17:
Sitting in kennel with a relaxed body. He comes forward when I open the kennel door and head-butts my hand. Allows all petting, leaning in with a riased tail. He comes foward to head-butt my hand whenever I stop petting him. When I lock his cage and open his cubby door, trying to coax him in that direction he hisses. I try to pet him through the kennel door and he hisses again. Sprayed feliway.
