11/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Pudy’s previous owner reports he is shy around strangers and takes a few minutes to warm up to new people. After some time, he will engage in gentle play. He has lived with two adults, a teenager, and a two year old child. He was gentle around the child, engaging in gentle play and allowing the child to pet him. He was relaxed and playful around the two other cats he lived with, and was relaxed and tolerant with a large breed dog. He was described as a shy and affectionate cat. Reaction to assessor: Pudy was lying down upon approach, but his tail was flicking slightly. Reaction when softly spoken to: Pudy appeared indifferent initially, but after a moment he rolled on his back. He approached the front afterwards and rubbed his head on the cage door. Reaction to cage door opening: Pudy greets the assessor by the opening. Reaction to touch: Pudy head-butts and nuzzles his head against the assessor. He purrs, arches his back, and is very affectionate throughout the interaction. Reaction to pick up: Pudy remains calm, but will leap back into his kennel to solicit more attention. Pudy’s previous owner reports he has been urinating and marking around the home. We are unaware if any modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. During his time in the care center, he seemed to be using his litter box appropriately. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home environment. Behavior Determination: Average Pudy interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
