PRINCESSA – A1076540
Safe - 6-19-2016 Brooklyn Rescue: Staten Island Hope Please honor your pledges: http://www.statenislandhoperescue.org/
***SAFE 06/19/16 *** PRINCESSA is a royal beauty! This gorgeous and sweet 10 year old lived in the same home ever since she was a kitten. Now her owners have sadly abandoned her at the shelter because they are moving out of state where they don’t allow pets. This poor girl must feel sad to lose the only home and family she’s ever known! This poor sweetie is open to affection even though she is sad about her situation. A volunteer writes: “Princessa is one lovely grand dame! She is a beautiful black and white cat who is a little shy at first. When I approached her cage she seemed a bit lonely and confused but was so sweet and loving when I started petting her. She really blossomed as I gave her the care and attention she deserves. Please come by the shelter and spend some time with this lovely lady!” PRINCESSA would make a wonderful pet for an experienced pet home where she could have the time she needs to bond with her new owner, which she definitely would do if given the chance. Don’t let this lovely girl die tomorrow at the shelter! Please foster or adopt this royal kitty today!!!

06/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Princessa’s previous owner reports she has lived with two adults and was the only pet in the household. She is fearful of strangers that visit and hides the entire time they are over. She mostly likes to be left alone and sleep in her favorite spots. The owner described her as mellow, confident, fearful, independent, and quiet with a low activity level. Reaction to assessor: Princessa’s body is low on the ground and looks at the assessor with squinty eyes. Reaction when softly spoken to: Princessa lifts her head slightly to look, but lowers her gaze after. Reaction to cage door opening: Princessa remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Princessa sniffs the assessor’s hand and head-butts lightly when petted. She leans in for petting and begins to purr loudly. She shifts her body to a relaxed position and appears to appreciate attention. Reaction to pick up: Princessa becomes tense and shifts away from pick up. Princessa’s owner reports she has started to have litter box accidents a few weeks ago. She will urinate and defecate just outside the litter box. She has not seen a veterinarian for this issue and we are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. Placement Determination: Experience Princessa interacts with the observer and appreciates attention, but may dislike being picked up. She may also need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Any future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
