*** SAFE 12/04/17 *** Poor senior gal Princess was surrendered because her owner developed asthma and allergies, and she isn’t handling the hustle and bustle of the shelter environment very well. She is a bit upset and who could blame her? Princess is already spayed and would love to be back in a real home for the holidays!

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/26/17 At front of kennel, gobbling up wet food while grumbling. She lifts her head and hisses when spoken to, then tolerates petting along her head and body briefly before lifting her paw and swatting at the bear-claw (claws unextended). Needs more time to adjust. 11/27/17 Hiding beneath blanket as I approach. She makes eye contact and hisses with ears flattened as I lift the cover back. Continues to hiss and lunges forward. She eats the treats I push towards her while grumbling. My intention is to clicker train her but she does not eat any more treats after that first one – too focused on me and surrounding environment.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Princess has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
