Hello, my name is Princess. My animal id is #11775. I am a male orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 04-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- homeless.
Princess 11775 is at risk for behavior concerns (New Hope Only behavior determination). She remains hidden inside her den and will display distance-increasing behavior to avoid being touched. There is no noted medical condition for her at this time.

Upon Intake, Princess was shy but allowed counselor to collar, pet, and take her picture.

Basic Information:: Princess is an unaltered, domestic medium hair cat. Previous owner got Princess from a friend when she was 3 weeks old. Unfortunately had to surrender due to getting evicted. Princess has no known health issues and has never been to the vet.
Previously lived with:: 1 adult and 1 child.
How is this cat around strangers?: Princess is shy when strangers come to the home. She will hide until they leave. She plays gently with adults.
How is this cat around children?: Princess lived with a 10 year old child. She was relaxed and affectionate with him. She played gently with him.
How is this cat around other cats?: Princess has never been around another cat. Behavior is unknown.
How is this cat around dogs?: Princess spent time around a small breed dog and she was fearful. She hissed and would hide away from the dog.
Behavior Notes: Princess will scratch the couch and is quiet throughout car rides. She is afraid of baths and has never had her nails trimmed. She enjoys getting brushed and being picked up like a baby. She isn’t bothered when being picked up, put inside carrier or disturbed while sleeping.
Bite history:: Princess have never bitten another animal or human.

Medical Notes: Princess had no obvious medical issues upon intake.
For a New Family to Know: Princess an affectionate, mellow, playful, quiet cat. She has a medium activity level and will follow the owner around. She loves to play with her stuffed toy and is mostly an indoor cat. She had the freedom to go outside to the fire escape when she pleased. She will sleep with owner and ate friskies dry food twice a day. She is litter box trained and used an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. She did not have a scratching post but would use the wall inside previous owners closet.

Behavior toward dogs: Princess spent time around a small breed dog and she was fearful. She hissed and would hide away from the dog. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – aggressive/unable to do full exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/5/17 In den on approach. Looked up when door opened, eyes dilated. Hissed and started deep growling when touched. Sprayed thunderease. 11/6/17 In den on approach, pressed back and out of reach. Started hissing and deep growling when door opened. Could not coax out. Sprayed thunderease.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Princess remains tense, crouched position hiding in the cat den.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Princess becomes alert with eyes fully dilated.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Princess stiffens up in place, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Princess does not allow the touch and began to growl at the assessor’s hand then strikes to stop the interaction.

Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Princess is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
