***SAFE 10/26/17*** SHY PLUM LOST HIS HOME WHEN ELDERLY OWNER COULD NO LONGER CARE FOR HIM. Plum is a shy boy who liked to be in the same room as his owner and was friendly and affectionate with him. He loved playing with balls and string toys. Now that he was brought to the shelter, the environment is taking a toll on him and the ACC has given him the boot tonight! PLUM needs someone to adopt him and give him time to regroup and feel safe again. He is only 10 months old and has a long life ahead of him. PLEASE RESERVE THIS HANDSOME TABBY NOW!!
BROOKLYN CENTER
Hello, my name is Plum. My animal id is #9993. I am a desexed male gray tabby cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 10 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 17-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- owner elderly.
Plum 9993 is at risk for behavior concerns (Adult-only determination). He has tolerated brief, gentle touch but remains uncomfortable with interaction and is unlikely to thrive in the busy adoption room. Due to his fear and timidity we recommend an adult-only home for Plum and adopters who will allow him to warm up to his new home and new family at his own pace. There is no noted medical condition for Plum at this time.

A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Plum tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. He may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
