Behavior
07/06/16
Curled up in litter box at the back. Tail at side. Nervous. Curls up tight as you approach. Meows softly. Leans away, closes eyes when touched.
07/08/16
Comes forward, social & solicits attention. Sniffs hand and lightly head butts. More confident. Tail up. Appreciates attention. Doing great!
Petey lived previously with 4 adults and 2 children, as well as with other cats and dogs. The animals all got along well. She is reported to be playful and affectionate.
Petey was initially timid when she came into the care center, trying to flee during her initial medical examination and leaning away from touch during her first interaction with the enrichment team. However, she appears to be adjusting well to the shelter and within two days was seeking attention from the vet during her re-examination. Petey was also interested in interacting with the assessor during her behavior evaluation, head butting and vocalizing.
Reaction to assessor: Petey is resting at the front of the cage when approached. She begins vocalizing (meowing) when she sees the assessor, and continues throughout the assessment.
Reaction to cage door opening: Remains at the front. Petey is unsteady on her feet, but she stands and approaches.
Reaction to touch: Petey head butts the assessor’s hand and allows all petting.
Placement determination: Average
Petey interacts with the Assessor, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
