01/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Persia looks tense in his cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Persia remains hiding in her cat den, alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Persia hisses at first, but then slowly began to warm up and head-butt the assessor’s hand. However, he seems unsure with his surroundings and remains hiding. Placement determination: Experience Persia tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. 1/27 update: Persia’s behavior seems to be deteriorating, likely as a result of the stressful environment. When approached he solicits attention and he tolerates petting and attention, but after a brief interaction he may swat to increase distance. This may be the result of stress, overstimulation, or petting-induced aggression (sensitivity), or a combination of those factors. Persia’s previous owner describes him as very sweet, loving, cuddly and affectionate and does not note any behavior challenges in the home. However, due to Persia’s stress level in the care center we recommend that he move into a stable home environment as quickly as possible.
