Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Perry was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She was hissing upon intake and did not allow any handling. She also displayed distance-increasing behaviors during her initial medical exam and resisted handling. The enrichment facilitator reports she was tense during their first interaction, and didn’t move much. They decided to leave her alone in hopes she would acclimate to the environment with more time. Reaction to assessor: Perry was hiding behind her litter box upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Perry focuses on the assessor and appears to be focused on all movements around her. Reaction to cage door opening: Perry remains motionless and lip licks. Reaction to touch: Perry leans away from the assessor’s hand, but allows touch with a slow approach, flinching. She lowers her head and appears uncomfortable and closes her eyes, but hisses when touched on her back. Behavior Determination: Experienced, No Children Perry tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
