Hello, my name is Peppermint. My animal id is #11645. I am a desexed male gray tabby kitten at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 11 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 03-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.
Peppermint was placed at risk for testing positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). FIV can be tolerated well by cats, but can eventually lead to debilitation of the immune system. Peppermint has been friendly and social in the care center, and is suitable for a first-time adopter.

Upon intake Peppermint was calm and relaxed. She scanned negative for a microchip and allowed all handling.Photo in carrier due to too many animals out at once.

Basic Information:: Peppermint is an unaltered female DSH. See was never taken to the vet but appears healthy. She was found as a stray a month ago. Owner surrender due to someone in the household being allergic.
If yes, Please elaborate:: Peppermint adjusted to using the bathroom in the home for a month.
Previously lived with:: Two adults no children
How is this cat around strangers?: Peppermint is friendly and outgoing towards visitors and strangers.
How is this cat around children?: Behavior is unknown.
How is this cat around other cats?: Behavior is unknown.
How is this cat around dogs?: Behavior is unknown.
Bite history:: Peppermint has never bitten or scratched anyone owner stated.

Has this cat ever had any medical issues?: No
Medical Notes: Peppermint has never been to the vet since owners founder her.
For a New Family to Know: Peppermint eats wet food twice a day. She uses the litter box. She plays with balls and doesn’t scratch on furniture. Owner stated she knows how to open doors.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Peppermint was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. Her finder kept her in their home for a month and reports she is friendly and outgoing towards strangers. She lived with two adults during the time and was reported to have a high energy level. She is litter box trained and knows how to open doors. She was calm and relaxed during intake and allowed all handling to be conducted.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior -friendly, allows exam/treatments with minimal restraint.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Peppermint was by the front, calm and relaxed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Peppermint looks at the assessor, meows softly, and then reaches out with her paw.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Peppermint becomes alert, but remains calm and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Peppermint was a bit hesitant initially, but warms up quickly when pet. She begins to purr, leans in for more rubs, and lifts her rear. When petting stops, she meows and solicits more attention.
Reaction to being picked up:: Peppermint remains soft and sniffs the assessor’s face. After sniffing, she nuzzles her face into the assessor’s arms.
